Helena Power

Helena Power was commissioned as school chaplain in 2018 Rockwell Green is a large village on the edge of Wellington. Alongside areas of affluence are estates with high levels of multiple deprivation. Helena Power is a chaplain to the primary school and to the community, paid and employed by both Methodist and Anglican churches.

I am the Rockwell Green school chaplain, and children and families chaplain for the Team. I also coordinate the new pupil chaplaincy programme in St John’s Primary School and work alongside many other individuals and agencies in the area to offer people a chance to have spiritual conversations about the Christian faith and things that really matter. “After many years of running church activities for children in my own time, it’s been an amazing privilege to see this transformed into a ‘real job’. It has meant a complete change of career, but I sense that I’m called to do this, and as the role is always developing, it’s a tremendous adventure. I’m particularly interested in offering quality time to local families through ‘Space to Be’ events, based round Bible stories and our response to them. At school I’m keen to give the children the chance to talk honestly and openly about God, to be themselves and to respect each other, as we find out more about Jesus and what he means to each of us.
